New Kids On the Block: The Mixtape Tour

On May 9, 2019, I went to what was easily one of the top five concerts I have ever been to. My cousin and I attended the Mixtape Tour put on by New Kids on the Block with Special Guests: Salt-N-Pepa, Naughty By Nature, Tiffany, and Debbie Gibson.
The show started with an opener that wasn't someone I was too crazy about. After that, I was in for the highlight of the month of May for me: seeing NKOTB perform live. What I enjoyed the most about this concert was how that it was set up to have practically no breaks during it. Switching from artist to artist was seamless as there were two stages -- the main stage that was shaped like a cassette tape and a smaller stage on the other end shaped like a CD. The theme was definitely on point.

True to Mixtape fashion, the artists would switch out throughout the show performing a few songs at a time. They also would introduce each other, which I thought was awesome. I might've cried during Tiffany and Salt-N-Pepa. #noshame

The special effects were super cool with how there was an app that you could download that would notify you when effects were coming that your phone would do to go along with the show. Also, the lighting was cool with how that it would project down onto the edge of the main stage the "side" of the cassette they were on and the song names.
I also never knew how much that 80s babies could party. I was in awe by how hard everyone went the entire night. I could not even hear any of the songs until about four or five songs in. Even as I was leaving the show, I felt like I was in a tunnel from how my ears felt from all of the screaming. It was absolutely fantastic.

My favorite part of the show was the ability for the artists to walk into the crowd and that the crowd actually wasn't swarming them and were just letting them have a good time. Every other show I've been to when an artist goes into a crowd, the crowd makes it to where they can barely even move. This was not like that. Clearly, the 80s babies understood that in order to keep having good things, they have to be respectful.

Overall, it was something I was so glad I got to experience, because I've never been to a show like it and probably will never go to another one close. It was definitely a once in a lifetime experience (or else you're the girl I talked to from Indiana who was going to like five shows on the tour).
